As the year comes to a close I’m well aware that my goal of seeing 50 bands this year is almost complete. However, there are 2.5 days left before 2013 and my 2012 band count still sits at 49. So I will take this opportunity on the 29th December 2012 to fill you in on the extras I was either too embarrassed to admit I saw or the bands I didn’t really know at the time and have now found a place on my Spotify playlist.
Tom Jones @ The Graham Norton Show
I wasn’t excited to see Tommy J. This guy who probably too old for even my parents to enjoy. I guess it would have been ok if he sung something fun like ‘it’s not unusual.’ Instead I had to endure some his more recent ‘hits.’ Not enjoyable.
First Aid Kit supporting Jack White @ The Hammersmith Apollo
This band was recently bought to my attention by my sister Emma who added First Aid Kit to her top ten in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2013. I would describe them as folk singing hippies who want to inspire their fans to bring peace to the world through their music. My review so far sounds quite negative, but I trust my sister’s taste in music and am currently listening to their album and I’m happy to say I also like it.
Charli XCX supporting Sleigh Bells @ The Electric Ballroom
I’ve started seeing this girl spring up around the place, she’s even supporting Maroon 5 at the O2 (achievement?). I can’t remember too much about her, she didn’t have much of a crowd but she seemed pretty happy to be on stage. Her music is not something I really remember, I think I had a bad case of cellulitis.
Will Young @ The Graham Norton Show
Funny guy that Will Young. He was the very first winner of ‘Pop Idol’ beating Gareth Gates to take first place. Again, new music from a British has been was not enjoyable. But, Will Young did have some good banter about what winning Pop Idol back in the day.
Maverick Sabre – Hackey Weekend
We swore we would never speak of this. At Hackney Weekend we waited through this guys set to see Azealia Banks. It was interesting. We all had no idea who he was but as we were waiting so close to the stage there were a lot of hard core ‘Maverick Sabreons’ standing close by, so someone must like him.
It’s been the most amazing year of my life. Thank you to everyone that made it one to remember.
The Band count is now complete. The final total = 54
I will leave you with the song that I would say is hands down the best of the year.
Love you Grimes
