My Favourite song of all time is sung by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
I will never forget the first time I saw Karen cry in the music video many years ago. It’s quite possibly the most compelling image linked to a piece of music in the world. You can easily see the love and pain Karen is feeling from the look in her eyes and the tears rolling down her face.
Maps, was not the only reason I was so excited to see The Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the first time in about five years. With the release of their new album Mosquito, I spent the week previously doing my homework by listening to each track over and over again until they were drilled into what’s left of my rapidly decreasing brain cells. The two faves that stood out were ‘Mosquito’ and the first single ‘Sacrilige’ which of course both featured on the set list.
The also played many of the classics and a few surprises: Soft Shock, Gold Lion, Heads Will Roll, Cheated Hearts, Zero and the Encore: Maps and Date With a Night.
I can’t wait to see Karen again at T in the Park later this year. I hope to remember more at the next performance.
Wait. They don’t love you like I LOVE YOU.
